Abstract: Molecularly imprinted polymers often suffer from a heterogeneous site distribution, which results in variable degrees of selectivity for molecular recognition and catalysis. A (vinyl dppe)Pt[(R)-Bu2BINOL] imprinted polymer displays a selectivity for BINOL rebinding of 85:15 in favor of the BINOL enantiomer that was imprinted. However, surface sites display only a 2:1 preference for rebinding the imprinted enantiomer of BINOL, while more well-defined sites display up to a 97:3 preference for the matched BINOL enantiomer. To create a more homogeneous distribution of sites within the polymer, metallo-dendrimers, containing vinyl groups on the periphery, have been incorporated into molecularly imprinted polymers. Dendrimer based diphosphine Pt(BINOL) complexes can by synthesized and polymerized analogously to the (dppe)Pt(BINOL) complexes. This metallo-dendrimer template provides a more controllable and homogeneous second coordination sphere for platinum.
