Abstract: The stimuli-responsive hydrogels that show swelling-deswelling behavior by changing external conditions such as temperature and pH are promising as smart materials for sensor and DDS etc. In this study, bisphenol A (BisA)-responsive hydrogels were prepared by molecular imprinting using cyclodextrin (CD) as ligand. The swelling ratios of BisA-imprinted hydrogel, nonimprinted hydrogel and polyacrylamide hydrogel were measured in a saturated aqueous bisphenol A solution. BisA-imprinted hydrogel was shrunken in the presence of BisA, but nonimprinted hydrogel and polyacrylamide hydrogel was very slight. The shrinking in BisA-imprinted hydrogel is due to the formation of the CD-BisA-CD cross-linking structures. These imply that the network of BisA-imprinted hydrogel memorized BisA. Furthermore, the BisA-responsive behavior of these hydrogels was investigated by measuring amount of bisphenol A adsorbed into the hydrogels.
