Abstract: We aimed to design the imprinting hydrogel that recognize a substrate in aqueous environment where a hydrogen bond does not work for the recognition. We used a metal-ligand coordination interaction to recognize the substrate in aqueous environment. We prepared imprinted hydrogel adsorbents, poly(sodium acrylate) (PNaAAc)-PNIPAm copolymers, whose binding ability and metal ion selectivity can be controlled by external stimuli. In this study, we report the two-step preparation method of the stimuli-responsive imprinting hydrogel and its application to the adsorbing system for heavy metal ions. We first controlled the recognition ability of the imprinted hydrogel-adsorbent by using the external thermal stimuli.
