Abstract: Multi-point interaction is essential for the recognition of nano-scale guests. Our strategy to prepare substrate-selective materials in water is to regulate the orientation of cyclodextrins (CyD) towards the hydrophobic moieties of biofunctional molecules. We have recently reported that molecularly imprinted CyD polymers immobilized on the silica gel selectively retain the target as stationary phases of HPLC. Here, enantioselective recognition of amino acid derivatives in water is studied. When Z-L-Tyr is used as a template, the CyD polymer on the silica gel retains Z-L-Tyr in aqueous eluent more strongly than Z-D-Tyr. As expected, Z-D-Tyr-imprinted polymer retains Z-D-Tyr more strongly than its enantiomer. These facts show that enantioselectivity can be controllable with the templates involving two or more hydrophobic moieties in them.
