Abstract: We prepare a stimuli-responsive imprinting hydrogel that bind Cu(II) ions selectively. We adopt the following two-step procedure to prepare the imprinting hydrogel possessing interpenetrated polymer network system. Firstly we prepare a soft hydrogel that freely change their conformation in accordance with a guest molecule, and then the hydrogel is incubated in heavy metal ion solution to bind the template ions. Secondly, the metal bound hydrogel tightly fastened with a secondary gel-network of PNIPAm in order to memorize the coordination structure. In this study we report the dependence of gel structure on the molecular recognition ability of the hydrogel.
