Abstract: Chrysanthemic acid is an acid component of natural and synthetic pesticide, pyrethroids. Among the four optical isomers, the (+)-trans-isomer shows the highest activity. In this study, we have investigated the optical resolution of various chrysanthemic acid esters by HPLC using carbamate or benzoate derivatives of cellulose. It has been found that ethyl trans-chrysanthemate can be resolved using a chiral stationary phase (CSP) of cellulose tris(4-methylbenzoate) (1) with a separation factor of near 8. It has been reported that the chiral recognition ability of 1 coated on silica gel depends on the preparation conditions. We have succeeded to achieve the separation factor of more than 6 in our own procedure using methyl benzoate as an imprint molecule.
