Abstract: Aromatic sulfur-containing compounds can be removed from hydrodesulfurized gasoline and diesel by the adsorption method which is a new process with commercial prospect to produce ultra-low sulfur fuels. The design of adsorbents such as molecular sieves, oxides, π complexation adsorbents, molecular imprinting and chemical reaction adsorbents, adsorption mechanism, regeneration of spent adsorbents is summarized. One problem of adsorption desulfurization is the low selectivity of sulfur compounds. The others including regeneration and recycling of adsorbents are to be improved
