Abstract: The rate of development of new medical products is massive. At the recent Medical Innovation Forum, the National Physics Laboratory announced work on reproducing the function of the pancreas by placing healthy cells within a nano-structured membrane. It allows nutrients in and enzymes out, though protein molecules cannot gain access to cause an immune response. GlaxoSmithLine is developing a number of techniques, including molecularity imprinted polymers to generate novel materials for chromatography and biosensors
