Abstract: This paper describes the use of surface initiated reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization to graft thin molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) films from the silica gel particles (MIP-Silica). The grafted imprinted polymer film was characterized by elemental analysis and nitrogen adsorption analysis. The MIP-silica prepared in this study had improved mass-transfer properties compared with MIPs prepared by conventional bulk polymerization. In addition, this paper also proved that the MIP-Silica can be used as the sorbent in solid-phase extraction to determine theophylline in blood serum with satisfactory recovery. Furthermore, the MIP-silica can also be applied in HPLC and capillary electrochromatography.
