Abstract: We recently reported on a molecular imprinting technique for synthesizing substrate-selective polymers, whereby linear polymers having polymerizable and functional pendants are cross-linked in the presence of template species. In this study, we prepared water-soluble linear polymers by partial modification of poly(methacrylic acid) with 4-vinylbenzyl chloride by DBU method. Using the linear polymers, synthesis of substrate-selective polymers was performed in several polar solvents. We will report the affinity and selectivity of resultant cross-linked polymers to biologically active compounds. The effects of solvents on the performance of the imprinted polymers will be also discussed. (author abst.)
