Abstract: A Co(II) ion imprinted silica gel sorbent was prepared by surface imprinting technique using Co(II) as the template, 3-[2-(2-aminoethylamino) ethylamino] propyl-trimethoxysilane as the functional monomer, silica gel as the support, and epichlorohydrin as the cross-linking agent, and was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric analysis-differential thermal analysis(TG-DTA). The adsorption property and selective recognition ability of Co(II) ion imprinted silica gel sorbent were studied by equilibrium-adsorption method. The results showed that the maximum static adsorption capacity of ion imprinted and non-imprinted silica gel sorbent were 35.2 and 6.5 mg/ g, respectively. The experimental data followed the Langmuir adsorption model. The adsorption equilibrium could be reached in 20 min. There was no influence of pH values on adsorption capacity of ion imprinted silica gel sorbent in the range of 3.9-7.8. Co(II) ion imprinted silica gel sorbent could be used repeatedly and indicated high selectivitys even in the presence of the other metal ions.
