Abstract: The advance in surface molecularly imprinted polymer carriers is reviewed. In this paper, the surface molecularly imprinting technique with inorganic material and chitosan as the carriers is introduced respectively according to different types of carriers and surface modification methods, and the development prospect of the carriers is also presented. The surface modification of inorganic materials is mainly achieved by introduction of the functional groups(such as the amino group, the benzyl group, etc)of the alkylating agents. Then, the polymers are prepared by the surface molecularly imprinted technique. However, the modification of chitosan is completed by a variety of cross-linking methods in order to obtain a single matrix or a hybrid material as the carrier. Compared with traditional methods, the novel material has an excellent performance of good adsorption ability, high recycling rate and uniform particles. Nevertheless, further research is needed to study the micro behavior patterns during the preparation of polymers as well as the bonding rules between the functional monomer and the target molecule.
