Abstract: The special structure of nano-materials make it possess fantastic properties in optics, electrics, magnetics and calorics. At present, it has received broad application in the aspects of chinaware, metal, nanometer polymer particle, nanostructure alloy, colorant, cosmetic, the preparation of electron component and analysis of metal elements. In this paper, its development status in home and abroad, its preparation methods, adsorption mechanism for metal ions, and applications were discussed. The application of nano-oxides, nano-tubes, nano-wires, nano-rods, hybrid nano-materials and molecularly imprinted micro-nanometer materials to the analysis of metal ions were investigated in detail. Its potential development in the future was also discussed
