Abstract: Molecular imprinting of bovine serum albumin (BSA) on silica surface is described using a covalently bonded template method. For polymerization, two kinds of organic silane ( 3 -aminopropyltn'methoxysilane: APS and n-octyltrimethoxysilane: OMS) were used. Aminopropylsilanized silica gel was first aldehyde functionalized with glutaraldehyde and then reacted with BSA by forming imine bonds to covalently immobilize the template protein. Polymerization occurred for siloxane-silica in the presence of the template protein. After removal of the template with oxalic acid, the BSA imprinted polymer on silica surface was obtained. Adsorption experimental results indicate that the surface imprinted polymer show high selective binding for the template BSA over the other tested proteins. One of the main advantages of the method is its binding sites located on or close to the surface and thus having good site accessibility towards the target protein
