Abstract: Theophylline has been introduced in the therapy of chronic airway disease since several decades ago. Determination of trace amounts of theophylline in tablets and biological fluids is of great interest. In this work a new molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) has been synthesized by N,N-dimethyl-acrilamid(DMAA) and allyl glycidil ether/imino diacetic acid(AGE/IDA) as the functional monomer ,N,N methylen diacrylamid as the crosslinker in the methanol solution using theophylline as the template molecule and 2,2’-azobis-isobutyronitril (AIBN) as the initiator. The polymerization was performed in presence of Cu2+ which can coordinate with the drug and retain it in the polymer. The polymer was characterized by, elemental analysis, FT-IR, and thermo gravimetric analysis(TGA).The effect of various parameters like pH, adsorption time, amount of adsorbent and adsorption capacity of adsorbent at optimum conditions were examined. The synthesized polymer was successfully applied for preconcentration and subsequent determination of theophylline from tablet matrix Template and target information:theophylline
