Abstract: Monodisperse molecularly imprinted polymer microsphere(MIPMs)for chloramphenicol was prepared by two-step seed swelling using linear polystyrene emulsion as seeds, methacrylic acid(MAA)as functional monomer and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate(EDMA)as crosslinker. The influences of swelling ratio, stirring speed, ratio of water to oil, dosage of cross-linker and dispersant on the morphology, size and size distribution of the MIPMs were investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM).Furthermore, static adsorption was used to evaluate the recognition properties of the MIPMs.When the swelling ratio was 40,stirring speed was 150 r/min around, ratio of water to oil was(8:1)—(11:1),dosage of cross-linker was 20 mmol, dosage of dispersant was 1.2 g,a series of uniformly sized MIPMs with good dispersion were obtained. When 4 mmol MAA was used as the functional monomer, and the dosage of crosslinker was 20 mmol, the prepared MIPMs exhibited the best recognition performance, and the separation factor was up to 5.57 when thiamphenicol was chosen as the competitive molecules.Two-step seed swelling opened a simple and effective approach to preparing MIPMs in water.
