Abstract: Molecular imprinting studies are described which focus upon the selection, design, and synthesis of functional monomers for the preparation of high affinity polymeric materials. The use of methacrylic acid and 2-(trifluoromethyl)acrylic acid as functional monomers is illustrated with biologically active molecules and agricultural and pharmaceutical compounds as model templates. Potential applications are explored with biologically active compounds as analytical targets to probe the utility of molecularly imprinted affinity polymers
