Abstract: A thin membrane zero-current potentiometric electrode was created. The Boc-L-Phe-OH imprinted membrane was cast onto a Nafion (DuPont) ion exchange membrane to provide support. The ion communication between the Nafion and imprinted polymer membranes, necessary for the function of this electrode, was analyzed by titration. The electrode's response to concentration of Boc-L-Phe-OH, electrolytes, and different solvent conditions was also analyzed. Nafion has proven to be an effective support for imprinted polymers allowing their application as thin membrane electrodes without necessarily being self-supporting. This opens up the range of molecularly imprinted polymers that can be used in sensor applications.
