Abstract: Hg2+ imprinted polymer particles were prepared by precipitation method with Hg2+ as the template, maleimide as the functional monomer and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EDGMA) as the cross-linking agent. The combination between template and functional monomer was investigated by UV spectrometry, and surface morphology and chemical structure were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and FT-IR. This study also confirmed the best adsorption condition: the adsorption time was 110 min, the adsorption temperature was 60 C and the pH was 7, resulting the maximum absorption capacity of 61.23 mg/g. The selectivity experiment showed that the k value of the imprinted polymer to Cu2+, Pb2+ and Co2+ were 6.45, 4.63 and 5.21. The reusability test indicated that the adsorption capacity in the sixth time was 86.3% that of the first time. The recoveries of real samples (tap water and lake water) were in the range of 89.8% to 100.7%.
