Abstract: A novel procedure which employs colloidal imprinting and air stabilization of the mesophase pitch particles is proposed for the synthesis of mesoporous carbons. This procedure allows one to control the degree of mesopore development during colloidal imprinting and carbonization and, consequently, to synthesize carbon particles with surface and volume mesoporosity. Nitrogen adsorption studies show that the resulting carbons exhibit interconnected spherical mesopores and their microporosity is negligible
