Abstract: In this study, a novel magnetic ion-imprinted polymer (MIIP) was synthesized for the preconcentration of Pb(ii) ions in real samples and its subsequent determination with flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The polymer was characterized using Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and high angle X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). Various affecting factors such as pH of the sample, eluent composition (type, volume, and concentration), sorption and desorption times and sample volume were investigated. Under the optimum conditions: (pH = 7, 2 mL HCl 2 mol L-1 as an eluent, sorption time of 10 min, desorption time of 16 min, a sample volume of 100 mL) limit of detection was 0.71 ng mL-1 while the limit of quantification was 2.34 ng mL-1. The preconcentration factor and precision of the method (RSD%, n = 6) was calculated to be 125 and 3.1%, respectively. The maximum sorption capacity was 128 mg g-1. This new MIIP exhibited excellent performance for the preconcentration of Pb(ii) from real matrixes. Finally, the usability of this method was investigated by analyzing water samples and several types of agricultural products
