Abstract: This talk will focus on our recent efforts to carry out molecular imprinting inside of dendrimers (Nature, 2002, 418, 399). The current challenges are to create more effective imprints by increasing the number of cross-links and to develop better methods of tranducing binding into a convenient read-out signal. This talk will focus on the synthesis of new dendrimer architectures that feature a greater number of alkene groups within the branched network. The relationship between the number and position of cross-links and the effectiveness of molecular recognition will be described as will efforts to find chromophores that respond to binding contacts.
