Abstract: Molecularly imprinted polymers using p-hydroxybenzoic acid (p- HB) as template, 4-vinylpyridine (4-Vpy), acrylamide (AM) and their combination ( 1 : 1 molar ratio) as functional monomers were prepared, respectively. The retention of p-HB and its analogues on the polymer based HPLC columns was studied. The order of imprinting effect of the three MIPs with different monomers is: 4-Vpy > (4-Vpy + AM) > AM. The effect of mobile phase additives was also studied. p-HB and its analogues showed better retention when H2O was used as additive rather than CH3CO2H was employed. Furthermore, computational approach using PM3 method with Gaussian 94 software showed a positive correlation between the binding energy of the pre- polymerization complex and the retention factor of p-HB in HPLC experiments
Template and target information: p-hydroxybenzoic acid, p- HB
