Abstract: Molecular Imprinting technique (MIT) involves the preparation of a polymer with selective recognition sites for specific molecule. The sol-gel technology provides a versatile method to prepare the size, shape, charge selective inorganic materials, and inorganic-organic hybrid materials with specific functions and affinity. The molecularly imprinted sol-gel materials with controlled porosity and surface area have been prepared by varying the sol-gel processing conditions for the application of separation, catalysis, microsynthetic receptors, the selective adsorption and preconcentration of the template molecules ( or target molecules). In this paper, the conceptions, principles, characterizations of molecular imprinting sol-gel technology and molecularly imprinted sol-gel materials and some new methods for preparing molecularly imprinted materials based on sol-gel processes were reviewed
