Abstract: This study explored the viability of molecularly-imprinted polypyrrole as die recognition element in a piezoelectric sensor for caffeine. The polymer was prepared by galvanostatic electro-polymerization of pyrrole onto one of the gold electrodes of a quartz crystal in the presence of a template caffeine molecule. The sensor was set in a measuring cell and connected to an instrumentation system consisting of a Pierce oscillator circuit and a frequency counter. The sensor exhibited a linear response in the range of 0.1 to 10 mg ml(-1) (r = 0.9882), a sensitivity of about 255 Hz/ In conc (mg/mL) and good repeatablility, rsd = 8.217 (n=6) for 0.5 mg/mL caffeine solution. This sensor can be a promising inexpensive alternative method for caffeine detection
