Abstract: We have prepared ordered assemblies of cyclodextrins (CyDs) for the recognition of nano-scale guests in water by using molecular-imprinting method. In the present study, Schiff-base formation was applied to the cross-linkage of CyDs to prepare more efficient and selective receptors. 3-Deoxy-3-amino-b-CyD was cross-linked with terephthalaldehyde in phosphate buffer in the presence of deoxycholic acid as a template. The Schiff base was converted to amine by the subsequent reduction with NaBH3CN. The resultant products were characterized by MALDI-TOFMS, which revealed that formation of CyD dimer is efficiently accelerated by the template compared with its absence. Thus, this method has a promising potentiality for the preparation of efficient artificial receptors in a tailor-made fashion. Guest-binding experiment by the CyD assemblies is also presented.
