Abstract: In this paper, a novel method of emulsion polymerization was introduced to prepare the imprinted polymeric microspheres in submicrometer size in water system using cimetidine as printing molecule, 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (AMPS) as functional monomer and trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TRIM) as cross-linker. The appearance of the beads were observed by scanning electric microscope (SEM), the stability of emulsion; the sizes and size distribution were studied and the major factors that influence these properties were discussed as well, based on which the polymerizing techniques was optimized. At last, the molecule recognition and selecting properties of the microspheres were evaluated. The results showed that monodisperse imprinted microspheres were obtained by emulsion polymerization and the average size was between 0.169? and 0.407?. The cimetidine imprinted microspheres exhibited a considerable capability of molecule recognition and selectivity to its printing molecule. The separate factor was 1.70 when phenylalanine was used as competitive molecule.
