Abstract: This review provides an overview of polymer gels with various intelligent functional elements. Information about the functions as well as the physical and chemical characteristics of the polymer gels acts as a guiding principle for a wide variety of technological applications in polymer gels. This article provides descriptions of the history of polymer gels, their current research and a review of noteworthy contributions in the polymer gel system in which gel networks are utilized as reaction and/or separation media.
