Abstract: A novolak polycondensate prepd. from PhOH and PhNH2 was treated with azo coupling products of a-naphthylamine and 2-naphthol-3,6-disulfonic acid (R-acid) or 2-naphthol-6,8-disulfonic acid (G-acid) and the polymer tested to see if it would preferentially absorb 1 dye. The polymer treated with the R-dye preferentially absorbed the dye, indicating good stereospecific imprinting of the sulfo group. The G-dye gave neg. results, probably due to inner salt formation between the sulfo group in the 9-position and the azo group in the 1-position.
