Abstract: A selective molecularly imprinted polymer to ferulic acid was prepared in acetonitrile by molecular self-assembly technology using 4-vinylpyridine (4-VP) as monomer and hydrogenated ferulic acid(HFA) as dummy template. The adsorption property and selective recognition ability of the polymer was characterized by equilibrium binding experiments in different adsorption system. The imprinting and recognition mechanisms were studied through ultraviolet photometric titration and Scatchard binding model. The results revealed that the polymer showed better affinity to ferulic acid than hydrogenated ferulic acid, and possessed the peculiar recognition property to be used in 50% water-containing solution. The imprinted polymer was further used as adsorbent of Ligustican Chuanxiong Hort water extract and got satisfying results. The test indicate that the polymer can be used as potential adsorption material to extract ferulic acid directly from traditional Chinese medicines
