Abstract: The application of several water-soluble poly[(N-acylimino)ethylene] (PROZO) macromonomers in the preparation of polymer micro- and nanoparticles with narrow size distribution, or as intermediates in the synthesis of polymer supported catalysts is presented. Different heterogeneous polymerization techniques were applied to obtain polymeric microspheres with controlled characteristics. The use of surface functionalized microspheres for the immobilization of nanosized metal catalysts (Pt) or for the recovery of poisoning or valuable metals from their diluted aqueous solutions (Pt 4+) were exemplified for core-shell polymeric particles - polystyrene latexes (PSt) with poly[(N-acetylimino)ethylene] (PMOZO) grafts. A recently developed approach for the preparation of manganese-polymer supported catalysts of high efficiency in the olefin epoxidation reaction, based on molecularly imprinted polymer technique, together with the chelating properties of the PROZO polymers and their derivatives are also presented
