Abstract: The primary focus in research in materials science of molecularly imprinted materials has been on the choice of template or functional monomer of the pre-polymer complex. The choice of crosslinking monomers that provide the supporting matrix have primarily been EGDMA or DVB, which are commercially available. We have redirected the focus of improving molecularly imprinted materials on the design of crosslinking monomers, and have developed new classes of crosslinked polymers to optimize the performance of molecularly imprinted polymers. During the analysis of these materials, we have discovered a new methodology for molecular imprinting using a single crosslinking monomer, and refer to this as "One Monomer Molecularly Imprinted Polymers" or OMNiMIPs. Discussion of the discovery, design, and potential performance of these new molecularly imprinted matrices will be reported.
