Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To study the molecular recognition properties of the molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) as the adsorbent of solid-phase extraction (SPE). METHODS: The SPE columns were filled with metoprolol-molecularly imprinted polymers which were prepared by adopting molecular imprinting technique. By contrast with the blank polymer, the maximum loading capacities of MIP under the non-equilibrium conditions were investigated and the optimum models concerning on the loading, washing and elution solution were founded. RESULTS: The metoprolol-imprinted extraction column exhibited high selectivity and good recognition ability for the template, howerver the blank polymer didn't. Under the optimum extraction conditions, metoprolol and its structurally related compounds carvedilol and propranolol were separated primely on this kind of solid-phase column. CONCLUSION: MIP, as the adsorbent of SPE, will provide an effective way to solve the purification of drugs
