Abstract: Besides recognized pollutants, numerous other chemicals are continuously released into the environment as a result of their use in industry, agriculture, consumer goods or household activities. The presence of these substances, known as emerging contaminants, has become an issue of great concern within the scientific community during the last few years. For this reason, the availability of sensitive, accurate and reliable analytical techniques is essential in order to assess their occurrence, removal and fate in the environment. In this chapter, the state of the art of the analytical techniques used to determine a wide range of emerging contaminants in several environmental matrices will be overviewed
