Abstract: As a kind of potential carcinogenic materials, furan is formed during the heat treatment and widely exists in the commercial food. In this experiment, furan was chosen as the template, 2-methyl furan as dummy template, methacrylicacid (MAA) as function monomers, and ethyleneglycol dimethaciylate (EGDMA) as cross linkers. The molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was synthesized by non-covalent method. In this study, the preparation of MIP was optimized, and the kinetics of adsorption, static equilibrium binding and recognition properties of the polymers to furan and 2-methyl furan were also investigated. The results showed that the best imprinting effect(Q(MIP) = 69.64 mg/g, imprinted factor alpha = 1.879) was observed when 2-methyl furan was chosen as dummy template and template monomer ratio was 1:4. The MIP had the similar absorbability to furan and 2-methyl furan(alpha = Q(2-methyl) (furan)/Q(furan) = 1.004). The results also showed that MIP had specific adsorption for furan in the instant coffee. Thus, it could be used as a solid phase extractant to extract the furan in food and drinks by using solid phase extraction
