Abstract: With methacrylic acid and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as function monomer and crosslinker, respectively, uniformly-sized molecularly imprinted polymers for (S)-propranolol (I) and propranolol (II) were prepared by polymerization (details available). These polymers were also selectively surface-modified with hydrophilic polymers using a 1:1 mixture of glycerol (di- and) monomethacrylates. Results indicated that (i) I-imprinted polymers showed enantioselectivity towards II and its metabolites; and (ii)-surface modified, II-imprinted polymers could be applied to direct serum injection assay of II and its metabolites.
