Abstract: We recently developed a molecular imprinting technique for synthesizing polymers capable of molecular recognition. The technique utilizes linear functional polymers, in place of conventional functional monomers, which bear pendants for cross-linking and molecular recognition, and are cross-linked in the presence of template species. Extraction of the template species from the resultant cross-linked polymers yields complementary binding sites within the polymer network. Although diastereoselectivity has been exhibited by the PMAA-based imprinted polymers, the effects of cross-link on performance of the resultant polymers are currently unknown. In this study, we prepared linear polymers having different density of the cross-linking pendant, and cross-linked them with the different amount of ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the cross-linker. Estimating the thermodynamic parameters, the effects of the cross-1inking on affinity the imprinted polymers were investigated. (author abst.)
