Abstract: Previous achievements in ion-imprinted polymers are reviewed. Ion-imprinted polymers have several outstanding advantages, such as predetermined recognition ability, relative easy and low cost preparation, high stability and excellent specific recognition ability for target ions, which can lead to potential applications in ions extraction and senor identification areas. The principle of ion imprinted technology is addressed. The varieties of template ions in imprinted polymer are introduced, including main group metal ions, transition metal ions, rare earth metal ions, actinide metal ions and anion. The preparation, adsorption performance and application of the ion imprinted polymer are then emphasized. The future development of template-ion is also prospected.
