Abstract: A monolithic molecularly imprinted polymer with specific recognition ability for 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (4-HBA) was prepared by in-situ thermal polymerization, using acrylamide as the functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EDMA) as the cross-linking agent, toluene and dodecanol as porogenic solvents and azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as the thermal polymerization initiator. Baseline separation of isomers of hydroxybenzoic acid was achieved on the prepared HPLC imprinted column, but not on the blank polymer. The basic principle and mechanism of molecular imprinting polymers were discussed in this paper.
