Abstract: A molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was prepared using rhein (RH) as imprinted molecule, macroporous chitosan beads as functional matrix and methacrylic acid as functional monomer. The obtained molecularly imprinted polymers were evaluated by solid phase extraction and HPLC with respect to their selective recognition ability for rhein. MIP exhibited higher selectivity and recognition ability for rhein in a mixture of RH-MIP than non-imprinted polymer (NIP), and the content of rhein was increased from 16.55 % to 95.12 %. Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models were applied to describe the equilibrium isotherms of rhein adsorbed by MIP.
