Abstract: A molecularly imprinted polymer containing europium(III) ions in binding cavities is prepared. A chromophoric template molecule is captured selectively in the cavities and detected directly by observing the sensitized luminescence of the europium(III) ions. This type of sensor may be suitable for detecting chromophoric toxic chemicals, such as aromatic acid herbicides and insecticides.
