Abstract: (Introduction) Phenylbutazone (PBZ) and flunixin meglumine (FXN) are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) with anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity widely used for the treatment of bone and joint inflammations, laminitis and soft tissue inflammation in the horse. PBZ and FXN can also be used in racehorse to mask signs of inflammation and pain and frequently are identified in anti-doping control tests. The aim of the present study was to develop a new, selective, sensitive and fast analytical approach for PBZ and FXN quantitative detection in equine plasma.
