Abstract: Molecularly imprinted chitosan (CS) membranes were prepared by phase inversion process using CS as bulk polymer, and L-phenylalanine (L-Phe) as imprinting molecules. Two post-treatment methods including alkaline treatment and sulphuric acid crosslinking are applied to reduce the membranes' swelling capacity and then to maintain the stereo structure of the imprinting molecule cavities. FT-IR and SEM were used for membrane characterization. The chiral separation ability of the CS molecularly imprinted membranes towards the D,L-Phe aqueous mixture was evaluated by permeation experiments. Compared with the control CS membrane,an improved selectivity with a separation factor (α(D/L)) of 1.43 is achieved.
