Abstract: Stimulating stuff: The synthesis and optical activities of several metal oxide nanoparticles introduced in the helical pores of chiral mesoporous silica supports are reported (see figure). Both coloured and colourless metal oxides exhibited the Cotton effect at their characteristic absorption bands, attributed to electronic transitions from the ground state to excited states under an asymmetric electric field
