Abstract: In vitro diagnosis of neurodegenerative disease comprising measuring, in cerebrospinal fluid, the concentrations of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), 7-alpha-hydroxy DHEA and 7beta-hydroxy-DHEA, or their sulfates, and comparing the results with those in control samples from subjects without neurodegeneration, is new. An Independent claim is also included for a kit for in vitro diagnosis of neurodegeneration comprising either three antibodies, optionally labeled, specific for each of DHEA and its 7-hydroxy derivatives, or their sulfates, or a polymer, or set of polymers, containing the molecular imprint of these compounds.
